Error

The Kanata Sports Club team was playing in the league tournament.  In the first game, we allowed 11 runs in the first two innings.  So I went in to pitch in the third inning and only allowed one more run in two innings.  We lost 12 – 0 by mercy rule.

In the second game, I was playing first base.  The catcher on the other team, who is a really good hitter, hit a pop fly in foul territory beside first base.  I went over to catch it beside the fence and missed it completely.  It would have been the third out of the inning.  Instead on the next pitch, he hit a two run homerun.  We lost that game as well.

We lost our third game of the round robin and we eliminated from the tournament.  It was a 10 team tournament and 8 teams made the playoffs.  We were one of the two teams that were eliminated.

New Home

Barb received an email saying of house of the model she liked was coming up for sale.  It was Friday night and it was listed on the Morningside website but was not yet listed on the real estate system.  We looked at the pictures online and decided to go for it.  Barb called her real estate agent in Kitchener but he was at his cottage for the weekend.  He said there was nothing he could do until Monday.

I left for Guelph on Monday.  While I was there, Barb put in an offer on the bungalow.  There was a little bit on negotiation but she bought the house all by herself.  We take possession on Friday, August 31^st.

We will now have to sell our house in Barrhaven.

Malik

I was getting ready to leave Fergus where I was staying during the conference in Guelph when I received a text message from Barb.  She told me that the son of a tennis friend of hers had been beaten up by a bunch of high school football players.  Malik was living in Burlington going to high school and a tennis school.  He had a concussion and couldn’t go to school or play tennis.  He wanted to come home to Ottawa to recuperate.  Barb’s friend posted on Facebook that Malik was looking for a ride from Burlington to Ottawa.

Barb volunteered my services.  It was quite a coincidence that I was driving home from Guelph at the same time that Malik needed a ride.

Barb sent me his phone number and I called him to ask where he lived.  I drove from Fergus where I was staying to Burlington but couldn’t find his house.  I drove around and around and eventually phoned him but he didn’t really know how to get there either.  So I turned on my GPS and found where he lived.

I picked him up and we drove back to Ottawa together.  It was great to have him with me because I was trying to follow the weather in Ottawa so that I could cancel the games if necessary.  It turned out it was necessary to cancel the games.  So Malik sent some text messages for me to the team captains and the league executive.

Free Tickets

One of my old work friends now lives in the Netherlands.  He is a crazy Hamilton Tiger Cats fan.  Every year he buys tickets to the Grey Cup Game and if the Tiger Cats are playing in the game, he flies to Canada to watch the game.

He posted on his Facebook page that the Tiger Cats were giving away free tickets to their exhibition game in Tim Horton’s Stadium in Hamilton.

It turned out that I was traveling to Guelph for a conference and would be in Guelph on the night of the game.  So I applied for free tickets and received two.  I was planning to stay with a friend in Fergus and invited him to join me at the game.

I had never been to the new Tim Horton’s Stadium.  So I was really looking forward to it.

Silly Sayings on Little Slips of Paper

Laura and I were in the Tim Horton’s at the airport waiting for her flight to Halifax.  Laura wanted to make an art project out all the silly things I used to say when she was young.  We wrote them all down on my little slips of paper that I carry around in my pocket to help my memory.  It was amazing how many silly things we were able to remember.

Kanata Sports Club Party Team

This year, I am playing for the Kanata Sports Club team in the Glen Cairn Men’s Fastball League.  They are not very good but really like to party.  We go to the Sports Club to have chicken wings after every game.

Of course, Laura came to the game when she was visiting.  She made friends with all of the guys in the Sports Club after the game.  They thought she had the most interesting life.

Laura couldn’t believe how much beer the guys would drink and still drive home.

Coffee with Stan

Laura wanted to hang out with me the whole time she was visiting.  She even wanted to hang out with me when I went for coffee with Stan.  So the three of us sat in the Barrhaven Second Cup and Laura found out how boring Stan and I were.  She never would have believed it if she hadn’t seen it for herself.
