When Barb was looking for a dentist to replace her crown
cover, she found that her computer wouldn't come on. She was very upset because her computer had
been working fine last night and nothing had happened. Somehow I figured out that the light switch
on the wall turned off both outlets in the wall, the one for the lamp and also
the one for the computer. So now we know
that we have to leave the wall switch on and turn off the lamp with the knob.

Crown Cover
Just before we left to Florida Barb had some major dental
work. She is getting crowns put in for
her molars but for some reason they put the base in for one of the crowns and
then screwed in a cover for it. Today
the cover came unscrewed and fell out.
She couldn't put it back in herself.
She had to see a dentist here in Florida
and it took just a second or two to screw it back in with a tiny little ratchet
set and cost her $35.
Ottawa
Barb is constantly talking about how the place here is
different than back in Canada
but every time she talks about our home in Canada
she refers to it as Ottawa. Then she realizes what she has said and says
"wherever we live".
MP3 Player
I listen to my MP3 player every day when I go for a
walk. I have found a way to download
audio books from the library onto my computer and I have a large collection of
audio books saved to listen to in the future.
I was very upset when I started out for my walk and found that my MP3
player wasn't working. It tried turning
it off and on and I tried plugging and unplugging the headphones. Nothing.
Then I found that somehow the volume had been turned down to zero. I was happy it wasn't broken.
Propane Tank
I don't like transporting propane tanks. So we left our propane tank with Truman in Avon Park. Barb was very upset that we would have to buy
a new propane tank again. We had to do
the same thing when we moved to New Hamburg and it is quite expensive.
So she went to Walmart and found the propane tanks and then
she paid for it. She had to carry the
heavy propane tank a long way to the car but when she got home she looked at
her receipt and found that she had paid for a refill and not a new tank. A refill is much less expensive.
iPad
The previous owners had an iPad on display on the table in
the bistro and Barb had asked the lady about it. The lady said it was just there for show that
she and her husband weren't technological.
When Barb was unpacking she found the iPad in one of the kitchen
drawers. I decided to keep it and set it
up. I had to upgrade the software about
ten versions but eventually I got it working and I now use it every day. It is great for reading electronic documents
and magazines. I don't like to read long
documents on the computer and magazines are illegible on the computer. So I find the iPad really helpful.
Poutine
One of the first things we had to do was go to Costco to get
our Kirkland de-caffeinated
coffee. The closest Costco was an hour
away in Orlando. Barb always likes to get something to eat at
the food place in Costco before she does her shopping. It wasn't too crowded because it was a brand
new Costco. So we could spend some time
joking with the cashier at the food place.
We asked him if they sold poutine.
To our surprise he knew what poutine was. We asked him how he knew and he said his
brother lived in Mississauga. Then he asked us to ask the other workers
there if they knew what poutine was.
They all looked at us strangely and the cashier laughed.
