Coffee

I set up the coffee pot with water and coffee grinds in the filter and then forgot to turn it on.  It was late in the evening when I set it up and we didn't need any more coffee I guess because neither of us thought about coffee all night.  Then I was doing the dishes before bed and went to empty the coffee maker by putting the filter in the garbage, I found that the coffee was all ready to brew.  Barb didn't mind because she said she could make coffee in the morning while I was still sleeping.

Bad Gary

There are two Gary Millers in The Villages who play pickleball.  So Barb calls them the good Gary Miller and the bad Gary Miller.  The good Gary Miller is very good and the bad Gary Miller is not too bad.  She is playing with the bad Gary Miller in the weekly mixed league and she had wanted to play with him in the US Open.  Unfortunately, he was playing with his wife who was at a lower level and was afraid to tell her that he wanted to play with Barb.  So Barb had to find another partner and chose one of our only friends.  Then after she was signed up the bad Gary Miller texted her and told her he had asked his wife and she said that she loved Barb and it was great if he could play with her because they were the same level but Barb thought it was too late and she was mad at the bad Gary Miller for being such a bad boy.

US Open

We are staying here until late April so that Barb can play in the US Open of Pickleball.  She had to register tonight for her division between 8 and 9 pm.  She was waiting all night for the time to come around.  Then she almost forgot about the time.  Then when she tried to register there were problems with the website and when she finally did register at about 8:15, she was put on a wait list because all the slots were filled already and her partners had not registered her.  She was worried about not being able to play in the tournament but her friends told her that there are many changes and usually the wait list gets activated.  They were right in a few days she found out that she was in.  She is not completely happy because she had so much trouble finding a partner for the women's and the mixed events that she is playing with some strangers.

Missing

I had my first game in the Recreational League finally.  We were getting ready to play and I looked on the line up sheet and didn't see my name on it.  So I yelled to the coach who was on the other side of the field coaching third base that he had forgotten to put me in the lineup.  Then one of the other players said no I was there batting after so and so.  I guess I was looking at the other team's lineup which was posted beside our lineup.  Since I didn't know the names of any of the players on my team or the other team, I wasn't able to recognize that I was looking at the wrong lineup.

Lucky Us

It might be cold here but we are luckier than Julia in Ottawa.  The heat broke in her apartment and they had to go out to all night diners to stay warm.  The people in the apartment below found shelter with friends and the owner of the house who lives on the main floor went to their summer home in Quebec.  Julia had to buy electric heaters.  Then her pipes froze and they had to turn off the water.

Second Ball Game

I woke up early to go to my first game in my other league and dressed up warm because it was still cold outside.  I drove all the way to the ballpark.  When I got there, no one was there.  I guess the captain of the team doesn't email to tell us when the games are cancelled.  We are supposed to listen to The Villages radio station in the morning which makes an announcement before the first game.  Barb doesn't like that station because it plays golden oldies for the old folks in The Villages.  I only listen to that station when I am driving my car.  So even if I had heard about it, I would have already been on my way to the ballpark.

Cold

Our sprinklers go on at 2 am on Thursday mornings.  I was up late and heard the sprinklers go on. I thought it was bad for the sprinklers to be watering the grass and the plants because it was freezing outside.  I have heard that the orange farmers water their trees when it is cold to save them from the frost.  But it didn't help our grass or plants.  Everything was killed by the frost.
