Clothes Racks

Barb hates wasted space.  She had visited John’s house and he showed her how he had made shelves all over his house.  Barb started thinking about the storage space in the bedroom closet.  She felt that there was a lot of wasted space in the closet.  So she started making plans.  The first thing she did was take down the clothes racks. And fix the holds in the wall with stackle.   Then she got back John to help put the racks back up but higher up than they were before.

Fabric Shelves

Barb was impressed by the book shelves in the library at the community center.  She found out that his fellow named John had made them.  So one day we were out walking and Barb was talking to someone and asking them about the shelves.  The fellow we were talking to said that this fellow John over there in the parking lot.  So Barb went over to him and asked him if he could make shelves for her fabric.  I gave him our name and address.  He came over soon after that and Barb explained what she wanted and showed him her fabric bolts.  He came back with some samples of the wood he would use and Barb picked out the colour she wanted.  Then a couple of days later he came over with the shelves made just like Barb wanted.  Barb was so happy and proud of the way her fabric looked on the shelves.

Potato Boxes

To help us in our move, Barb went to Costco and got a whole bunch of potato boxes.  We had about 30 of them.  My books and Barb’s fabric fit in them perfectly.  After I put the books on the shelves and Barb put her fabric on her shelves, I disassembled the boxes for recycling.  I cut them up and squeezed 6 boxes at a time into the garden waste bags.  Then Barb and I walked them up to the corner of the road for the recycle truck.  We were very happy that they took them all away.

Stuck in Traffic

On the way home after the tournament in Burlington on Sunday evening, there was an accident on the 401.  The accident occurred just about a kilometer before my exit to Kitchener.  All three lanes were closed for over an hour.  People turned off their cars and got out to see the accident.  I didn’t get out to see but I heard that the accident involved a transport truck and a minivan.  I texted Sarah to ask her to message Barb to tell her I was stuck in traffic and would be late getting home.  I guess Sarah was out when I texted her.  She messaged Barb just as I was getting in the door.

Fastball Tournament in Burlington

One of the reasons we moved to New Hamburg was so I would b closer to the fastball tournaments.  The first fastball tournament that I went to was in Burlington the first weekend in October.  The organizer of the tournament was a fellow named Clark Taylor.  He was with the Burlington Blues the defending champions of the tournament.  I met him on the first day and found out that he went to Central High.  He was in the year after me.  I didn’t see him play for the Blues but he always dressed in the team uniform for the games.  It was funny that the Blues uniforms were red.  They went on to win the tournament again this year.

Loveseat

Barb had purchased furniture for our sun room in New Hamburg while we were living in Ottawa.  She bought two lounge chairs from Sears and we had to move them from Ottawa.  Barb loved how the lounge chairs looked and feeled.

She also bought a loveseat to go between the chairs.  The loveseat had to be manufactured and we had to pick it up at the factory.

Fortunately, it was available for pick up when we had the cargo van.  So before Barb returned the van to Budget on Thursday afternoon, she went to the factory to pick it up and bring it back to New Hamburg.

It all looked great in the sun room.

Weeknight Construction

I knew there was a reason I wanted to rent the cargo van for the weekend but Barb found it was cheaper to rent it on a weeknight.  I couldn’t remember what the problem was.  So we rented the van and drove to Ottawa on Tuesday and were to have the van back on Thursday afternoon.

On the way back to New Hamburg from Ottawa, I remembered why it was better to drive on a weekend.  In Toronto, they do all the construction on the 401 in the night.  So there were about three places along our route home where the construction put the highway down to one lane.  We were delayed for quite a while and didn’t get to New Hamburg until 3 am.
