Open House

Barb likes to snoop at houses that are up for sale. She saw a flag on the corner of our street about an Open House. She was driving down the road and saw a flag beside the driveway of a house. So she stopped the car and went up to the door. The door was half open. So she walked in and there were two ladies sitting at the kitchen table. They looked up and said come on in. Barb thought something looked funny and asked if this was the Open House. One of the ladies said "No". Barb said she saw the flag outside and the lady and her walked out and the lady said it was a New England Patriots football flag. I thought it was so funny that these ladies would just welcome a stranger who hadn't even knocked into their house.

Leggings

Barb's pickleball friend Cass met her at the pickleball court the day after we arrived and asked Barb why she was wearing white leggings. She was making a joke about how little tan Barb had on her legs. Barb explained that they only play pickeball indoors in Canada in the summer.

Grey Cup

The day after we arrived in Florida the Grey Cup was on and the Tiger Cats were in it. So I tried to figure out a way to watch it. I couldn't get it on Kodi. So I phoned up our friends Larry and Cheryl and invited myself over to their house to watch it on ESPN 2. They have all the television stations possible. So I knew they would have it. Barb and I went over. Barb was talking to Cheryl in the kitchen and I was watching the game with Larry in the den. Barb started to have trouble breathing because she was allergic to their two cats and had not taken her puffer before she went over. She left early and got home and had to use her puffer three times before she could breath properly. The Tiger Cats lost and I got Larry to drive me home. Cheryl was very upset at me for not being more concerned about Barb.

Linux

I had left my Linux laptop in Florida for the summer and when I tried to turn it on it worked for a while and then shut down. I found that it kept doing that and then I heard a terrible noise from the fan. The computer kept overheating and shutting down. Eventually, I heard no noise at all from the fan and knew it was completely broken.

OOMA

We have internet home phone and we have two phone numbers, one for Canada and one for Florida. We have to bring the OOMA box back and forth with us when we go to Florida. I wasn't looking closely when I hooked it up and hooked the phone cable in the output instead of the input. We were sitting around the house thinking everything to okay and then all of a sudden our friend Curvin started talking to us over the phone but it hadn't even rung. It was so weird and I couldn't believe the phone would work with the cables all confused. I had to look closely to figure out what I had done wrong.

Live

Last year when we arrived in Florida we found a dead frog in the toilet. Of course, as soon as we arrive Barb has to go to the bathroom urgently to pee.  This year she was flushing the toilet after she peed and noticed a live frog on the inside of the toilet bowl. He seemed to be looking right at her and Barb totally freaked out. I had to catch the frog with a bowl and a plate and bring him outside and let him out.

Rain

There were terrible rain storms on our drive to Florida. It seemed that every time we changed drivers and I had to drive there was a terrible rain storm. When Barb drove the weather was always fine. Unfortunately, Barb was a very nervous passenger which made my driving even more difficult.

Secret Code

We always change our cell phone plan when we go to Florida but Rogers Pay As You Go makes it very hard to reach a customer service person on the telephone. They try to make you use the online system but you can't change your plan online. And if you try to change your plan on the phone the Rogers people say Pay As You Go is a totally different system but they can't direct your call. You have to phone the Pay As You Go number but there is no menu item to talk to a customer service person on that system. Fortunately, Barb was given a secret code last year that she could use on the phone to get through to a real customer service person.

Mouse

I was showing Ali my refugee crisis model on my computer and transferring it to his computer. I had real trouble remembering which mouse was which. Then just before we were leaving, Ali found my mouse in their study. I almost left it at Sarah's. That's why I hate cordless mice.

Chili

Sarah was making dinner for us and she was shaking the chili powder container over the ground beef she was cooking and the lid came off and the whole bottle of chili powder poured into the hamburger. Sarah scooped out all she could and we never told Ali. It didn't taste too bad and Ali never noticed.

309

We went to Sarah's for dinner and Barb and I tried to break into apartment 309 until Sarah messaged Barb and said it was apartment 209. We turned and ran away as quick as we could.

Henry

Ali and Sarah took us to the Mandarin Chinese buffet to say goodbye to us before we went to Florida. We were seated in the birthday room and our waiter Henry had to keep singing Happy Birthday To You all evening.

Santa

Barb was dropping off a medical claim at Sunlife and put the four-way flashers on for the first time in the Honda. She found she couldn't lock the doors when she left the car. Then when she came back to the car, the whole electrical system seemed to go crazy and lights flashed all over the place but the car wouldn't start. She tried to phone me but I had the sound off on my phone and didn't get the call. Eventually, an old man in a truck filled with tools saved the day with his jumper cables. Barb said he looked like Santa.

Mentoring

I applied to be a mentor in computer modelling and had to write a long email about my background. I said I had started doing computer modelling in 1977. I mentioned it to Barb and said that I started computer modelling the year my Mom died, that is 1977. Barb said she didn't die in 1977. She died in 1997. I was confused about whether I had said 1997 or 1977. Then when I looked my email up I realized I had made a mistake. I had to send another email correcting my myself to say that I started in 1997.

Watch

My Fitbit battery died and I wanted to wear my Timex until it charged but my Timex was not set to Daylight Savings Time. I couldn't get the little knob to come out so I could change the time. So Barb tried to do it with a screwdriver and accidently cut her finger. We never were able to change the time. So I just put the Timex away and waited for my Fitbit to charge. I also finally figured out how to change the clock in the car.

Snow

We hate having to wait until late November to go to Florida. Today there was a big snow storm and Barb was driving to pickleball with only her all-weather tires. She was going down a hill and couldn't stop and skidded right through the lights at the bottom. She was very lucky there was no one at the stop light or driving across the intersection. It would have been terrible to be in car accident just before we were supposed to drive to Florida.

Applause

Laura told us that she won the pole competition in Vancouver and got a huge applause not just during her performance but also when she was just by coming out from back stage to sit in the stands.

Bump

Our neighbour Sharon and her friend came over to say that her friend had bumped into my car when she was backing out of Sharon's driveway. There was a scratch on my bumper but we told them that I had done that myself when I backed into a building. There was no new damage to my car. So all was good.

Fitbits

All of a sudden our Fitbits wouldn't sync and my Surge wouldn't connect to Bluetooth. We thought our Fitbits were broken or Fitbit was down for maintenance or something. Then Barb was able to hook up at the Badminton Club and she messaged me to tell me. Then I was able to hook up on Sharon our neighbour's wifi. So we realized it had something to do with our wifi. When I reset the wifi, they synced again.

Tap

Barb tried to get the hose off the tap in the garage and was trying to turn the tap not the hose. She put so much pressure on it that she cut her finger quite badly. Then when she realized that she just needed to turn the hose, it came off easily.

Gardening

Barb and I were cleaning up the garden for the winter. However, we started working in the late afternoon and as we were working it got dark. I was embarrassed taking the yard waste down to the dump but when I got there, there was a lady working in the community gardens by the light of her car headlights.

Repeating

I choose the books that Barb reads. I thought there was a new Stephen King book out that she might like and loaded it on her Kindle. She read about half of it before she realized she had already read it. It was not a new book at all. She finished it anyway because she didn't remember the ending. Then she was looking through her favourite TV shows and found one she hadn't watched but after she watched the whole first season she remembered that she had watched it before.

Sweater

I like my big yellow furry sweater. Laura calls it my Daddyton Bear sweater.
