Battery?

I was doing a video chat with my friend Stan and he had to use his cellphone because he was having problems with his computer.  Then the phone cut out.  I thought his phone must have died.  In a few minutes, he came back online and told me that it wasn't his battery that actually he had run out of data.  So he had quickly bought some supplemental data so that we could finish our chat.

Fire Flies

My friend Stan was telling me one week about how he saw a lot of fire flies in his back yard one night when he was outside with his telescope.  The next day I ran across an article in my Scientific American newsletter explaining why there were so many more fire flies this year than in past years.  I sent it to him and he wrote back one word, Enlightening.

Barrhaven Children's Softball

Laura told me she was in Vancouver and heard someone call her name.  She looked around and saw this guy who said he remembered her from when she played on the same team as him in the Barrhaven Children's Softball League that I coached.  That was when she was in 6th grade.  He said he remembered how she would take off her batting helmet and her spiked hair would pop back up.

iPad

I often read my email on my iPad in bed in the dark so I don't disturb Barb.  Tonight I couldn't get to sleep.  So I thought I would read my email on my iPad but I had left my iPad in the television room.  So I got out of bed but didn't turn on the lights and tried to find my iPad in the dark.  I walked straight into the wall and hit my head hard and made a loud noise which I thought might have woken Barb and I would have been better to turn on the lights in the first place.

Tim

We have a new guy on the Red Sox named Tim and he is a superstar.  In his first game, he hit a homerun and a triple.  Then when I was in Ottawa he hit two home runs in two games.  He can play third base and shortstop and can even pitch.  The only thing he doesn't want to do is play at the same time as the old captain.  I guess he used to be on the team but he had a fight with the old captain and quit.  Fortunately, the old captain only comes to the minimum number of games to qualify for the playoffs.

Costochondritis

I got home from Ottawa and noticed that I had some chest pain.  When it didn't seem to be going away, Barb and I decided to go to the hospital to have it checked out.  We went to the Stratford hospital on a Tuesday evening and there was no one in emergency but even if there was since I was complaining of chest pain I would have gone to the head of the line.  They took me in and the doctor asked me where it hurt and pointed to a specific place on my chest and he said that was good because if it was  a heart problem it would hurt all over.  He said he wasn't worried but he would get them to do all the tests.  So they did blood tests and EKGs and took x-rays.  After a few hours waiting for the tests to come back, the doctor came back and said everything was a-okay and I was good to go.  That I had costochondritis.  It was a situation with where some of the chest muscles pull away from the rib cage.  He said no one knows what causes it and no one knows how long it will take to get better but it wasn't serious.  He said I was right to come in the hospital and have it checked out because 80% of people's first noticing chest pain are dead before they can do anything.

Carp

I was back in Ottawa the next weekend and coaching my competitive team in the Carp Tournament.  I was driving to the game on Sunday morning and I got two texts.  I was on the highway so I didn't check them.  Then I got two phone calls.  I didn't answer them but I knew something was wrong.  I thought maybe I had gotten the game time wrong and that it was at 10 am not 11 am like I thought.  When I got the park a 10:15 all the guys were coming off the field.  I guess the game was at 9 am and we had lost 13-2 in five innings.  Fortunately, I had left instructions to the other guys about what I was going to do with the lineup but the guys were kidding me quite a lot.  After the game we were scheduled to play the playoffs in the afternoon and the team captain told everyone that I shouldn't be allowed to leave the park.
