Highway Closed

We were planning to cross the border at Sarnia instead of Windsor because we got lost crossing over at Windsor last year and the border crossing was very busy at Windsor.

Barb drives the first leg of our trip because she likes to drive when the road in empty and I like to sleep for the first few hours.  She was worried that she would miss the exit from the 401 to the 402 which goes to Sarnia.

I woke up to help her when she came to exit and we took Highway 402.  We hadn't gone very far when we found the highway was closed.  There was no detour.  It was just closed for some unknown reason.  So we took the exit and turned around and went back to the 401.

There was no exit from the 402 to the 401.  So when we got on the 401 we had to get off at the first exit and turn around and get back on going the other way.

When we drove to Windsor I thought that the 401 went straight to the bridge for the USA.  So we took the 401 past the sign that said bridge to the USA.  We went a little farther then the highway closed.  We had to turn around and get back on the highway and then find the exit for the bridge to the USA.  The exit for the bridge took us right through what seemed like downtown Windsor but I seemed to remember it from last year.

We got to the border and there were hardly any cars.  So we didn't have to wait long.  The border guard asked Barb if she was bringing any alcohol over the border and Barb said no she didn't drink.  The guard said then how can you live with that guy.  Funny fellow.

We crossed the border and got on Interstate 71 South this time not Interstate 71 North like last year and we were on our way to Florida.

Router

I was asking Barb if we should drive to Avon Park right away to pick up our stuff or stay in The Villages and set up our internet.  We talked about it a little while and then Barb realized that the router for the internet was with our stuff in Avon Park.  So we had to go there to get our stuff before we could hook up the internet in The Villages anyway.

Driver's License

We were looking into internet service providers for Florida and Barb was talking to a lady from Century Link our old internet service provider in Avon Park.  It was late at night.  So the lady could not pull up our account information.  So Barb had to give the lady all of her personal information again.  The lady wanted to know Barb's driver's license number and expiry date.  Barb noticed that her driver's license was going to expire on her birthday.

The next day was Remembrance Day and then the day after that was Saturday and we were planning to leave for Florida on Sunday morning.  Barb was worried that she wouldn't be able to renew her license because the Service Ontario office would be closed.

She looked up the hours on the internet and found that Service Ontario was open until noon on Remembrance Day.  So the next day she went in the Service Ontario office early and renewed her license and had a new photo taken.  The lady gave her a temporary driver's license that was good until February and said the new driver's license would come in the mail in 4 to 6 weeks.  Barb asked if it could be mailed to Florida and the lady said no.

So Barb gave Barry our neighbour who is looking after the house $5 and asked him to mail the driver's license to her in Florida when he finds it in the mail.

Blood Test

I have been re-diagnosed with diabetes and am taking pills for it again.  Barb also got out my old blood testing equipment that she found hidden in her special place.  However, when we looked at the expiry date on the equipment it had expired in 2011.  So Barb went out and bought all new equipment for me. Fortunately it was covered by the medical plan.

I started testing my blood a couple of times a day.  My sugar level was usually around 7 which is too high.  We would sit down at the kitchen table every night and Barb would test her blood pressure with her blood pressure machine and I would take a blood test with my blood testing kit.  Barb tried testing her blood one day and her blood sugar level was 4.8.

Barb's Beads

Barb was having trouble with her allergies and was struggling with a plugged nose.  She went to the health food store and the lady there said she should buy some scent and put it on her wrist and then when she had a plugged nose she should take a sniff and it would clear her nose.  So she bought the scent but she found that the scent didn't last long on her wrist.  So she put it on her eye shade that she wears at bedtime and it lasted longer.

Then she and Sarah went to a craft show and she met a lady who was selling bracelets that had beads that you could put scents on and the scent will last for days.  However none of the bracelets she had would fit Barb's big wrists.  So Barb arranged to visit the lady at her house and pick up a bracelet later.

When Barb went to the lady's house, the lady gave her the bracelet that she had made especially.  It fit nicely but when Barb took off the bracelet the elastic broke and all of the beads went all over the lady's living room.  The lady said that she had purchased these new elastics and it seemed that they were not strong enough.

Camper Card

I was every happy when I found a birthday card for Daphne that had a little teardrop camper on the front and said Happy Camper on the inside because we had a teardrop camper just like to one on the cover when we were little kids.  Also Daphne and Truman enjoy camping in their camper van all year round.

I was heading up to see Daphne for her birthday and take her out for dinner.  When I got there, I saw that Julia had sent her the same card that I had brought.

Reversed Doors

Ali and Sarah took us to the Mandarin Chinese Buffet for a going away dinner.  We got there early and there was a big line up outside the restaurant.  More people were coming all the time.  However, the right hand door that is normally the entry door was locked and the left hand door which is usually the exit door of the double doors was unlocked.  We wondered why they would lock the normal entry door when we tried it and found it locked.  Then while we were waiting outside the restaurant I got a great laugh at everybody who came to the restaurant trying the right hand door and finding it locked and then having to open the left hand door.
