Tit for Tat

Barb is a member of the quilting club here in Florida.  There is a lady that is not too nice to her.  This lady was talking about a computer problem she was having.  The lady had Windows 8 and couldn’t print pdf documents the way she wanted.  She couldn’t choose individual pages to print.  All she could do was print the whole document.  Also she couldn’t print in black and white she could only print in colour.  So she was wasting a lot of printer ink.

Barb offered my services to help her.  I went over to the lady's place.  I thought she just needed to install Abode Reader but when I got there I found that she did have Adobe reader.  She explained how she printed documents directly from her email.  She was accessing her email from the apps page of the Windows 8 system.  I guess Microsoft was trying to make things simple for users by limiting the number of options available and there was no way to choose pages or black and white printing from the apps page.

I showed her how to access her email using Google Chrome on the desktop.  When printing from the desktop, I found that the options she wanted were available.

I then installed her wireless printer for her.  She asked me what she could do for me.  Barb told me to ask her if her husband would be able to come over and remove our garbage disposal system from our sink.  It had seized up over the summer and we couldn’t use the sink anymore.

A couple of weeks later her husband came over an did the job for us.  It was a great deal.

Leaving the Light On

Barb likes to try to read in bed at night.  She doesn’t have to read much before she falls asleep.  Every night is the same; she falls asleep with the light on and her book open in the bed with her.  She often loses her page because her book mark falls out.  She eventually wakes up or I wake her up and puts her book away and turns off the light.  One night she didn’t wake up until early in the morning and she wondered why it was so light in the room even though it was still early.  Then she realized that I hadn’t woken her up and she had left the light on all night.

Quilting Trigonometry

Barb was working on a complicated quilt with many pieces that were sewn together to make right angle triangles.  She kept measuring and placing but the triangles wouldn’t line up.  She had made a few cuts of the fabric and they didn’t fit together.  She was running out of the fabric she wanted to use.  So she was getting disparate. I offered to calculate the shape of the pieces using some trigonometry and some geometry.  When Barb finally had the quilt together she was very thankful.  Barb is always sad to say she never learned the Pythagorean Theorem in high school math.

Pedometer Problems

Daphne gave me a pedometer for Christmas to measure how long my afternoon walk was.  I walked my normal route and as usual after my walk I went into the backyard and picked up the grapefruit that had fallen off the tree.  When I bent over the pedometer fell on the ground and when I picked it up it had reset itself to zero.

So I had to use the pedometer again the next day.  This time I was careful and looked at the pedometer as soon as I got home.  It said my walk was 3.9 miles.  It also gave the measurements in yards and steps.  I was explaining how it worked to Barb and she was confused by my poor explanation.  She suggested that we drive my walk route and measure the distance on the odometer of the car.

We did and it said 3.9 miles just like the pedometer.  When Barb found out that I already knew it was 3.9 miles, she wondered about what I thought we were doing.

Weight Gain and Weight Loss

We had Christmas dinner at Daphne’s house and I ate too much.  I gained a few pounds and weighed 245 after the girls went home.

I lost it just a quickly when I got the 24 hour flu right after Christmas and I was back to my normal weight.

Orange Flavoured Ice Cream

When the girls are here, they like to go to get orange flavoured ice cream at a local fruit farm.

It was late in the afternoon and we didn’t know what time the store was open until. So I looked up McCracken’s Farm on the internet and phoned them.  The man said they were open until 5:30.

It was almost 5 pm.  So we had to hurry.  When we drove there we found out the farm was called Maxwell’s Farm not McCracken’s Farm.  We got there in time and had our orange twist ice cream cones on the porch.

Costco Receipt Checker

When we go to Orlando to pick up the girls from the airport, we make a detour to Costco.  Barb stocks up with toilet paper and frozen fruit for her smoothies.

On the way out of Costco you have to get your receipt checker by one of the Costco employees.  The fellow who checked our receipt was wearing a name tag and it said "Ivan".  Barb said that she had never seen anyone else named Ivan.
