Sarah has been getting me to listen to some of the audio
books that I get for her. Most of the
books are autobiographies of female comedians.
Many of them have some very funny parts.
One of the books was by Mindy Kaling who was a writer, director and
actor on The Office, a show I used to watch.
She said fellow writer BJ Novak had written the funniest joke she ever
heard. He said he had wasted his time in
college because he did a major in psychology and a minor in reverse
psychology. I got a kick out of another
joke that he wrote for The Office.
Michael, the boss, was in love with a former employee and she had come
back to visit. So Michael had written
her a poem. When he was talking to her,
he pulled a crumpled piece of paper out his pocket to read her the poem but he
couldn't read his own handwriting. He
started with "We are ... soup snakes". It turns out that he had been trying to read
the words "soul mates". I sent
a message to Sarah saying we were soup snakes but Sarah hadn't listened to the
book yet and didn't know the joke. I had
to wait until she listened to the book.
Then I listened to a book of short stories by BJ Novak. There was a really funny one about the best
selling author John Grisham, who writes thrillers about lawyers. Anyway the story goes that he wrote a book
but couldn't think of a good title. So
he sent the draft of the book to his publisher and just wrote The Something on
the front. The editor made some edits
and sent it back but I guess he sent it to the wrong email address and John
Grisham didn't see it. So since Grisham
didn't reply, the editor thought he was okay with the changes and sent it to
the publisher for printing. It went out
with the title The Something and John Grisham was mad at the editor and the
publisher for making the stupid mistake.
He was going to write the title after he had some time to think about
it. Anyway the book became a best seller
and after John Grisham had bawled out the editor, he relaxed and thought it
would be nice to see The Something among the books on his shelf.
OMG! What a funny mistake! Wow! Must be a good book to get published so fast without him even seeing it!
ReplyDeleteA funny joke I love from the Office is when a lady Michael likes (she does not like him) leaves him a voicemail and says "Sorry I missed you" he thinks she said "Sorry, I missed you" and therefore he says "aw she misses me" lol
