After my fall, Barb was very worried about what might happen if I fell during my evening walk. So, being the YouTube Queen, she started looking up videos on how to get off the floor if you are an old person. She watched about 20 videos and wanted me to try the way they all suggested. It involved getting to your hands and knees. Then, bring up one knee and then push yourself up using your hands on the knee that was up. I tried it a few times, and said it hurt my knee to go on my hands and knees. So, she kept looking at videos. After about 20 more videos, she finally found one that did not involve getting on your knees. You roll onto your stomach, do a plank, and then bring your feet up towards your hands so you are in the downward dog position from yoga. Then, you bend your knees and walk your feet towards your hands as far as you can. Then, you slowly walk your hands back until you can flatten your feet on the ground and are in a squat. From there, you can stand straight up. You have to take it slow. The first time I tried it, I didn't have my hands close enough to my feet when I stood up, lost my balance, and almost did a header into the bedside table. But I did it a few more times with Barb spotting me, and I became very good at it. And I didn't hurt my knees. So now Barb wants me to get on the ground in the bedroom every night before bed and practice getting up a few times. It is a great way to get up, but I can't imagine what someone watching me would think if I fell on my walk and got up that way.
For many years, I kept a family diary devoted to good news and funny stories about my family while the girls were growing up. I stopped a few years ago. I am thinking of starting it up again because I have noticed that a lot of good and funny things are happening to my wife and I.
