I have been going to the Winter Classic Fastball tournament every year since the mid-1990s. But this year, strangely enough, I didn’t know any of the teams. There were only six teams, and it was freezing cold. So I didn’t book a hotel and drive for 4 hours to watch this year. I could watch it on YouTube. On Friday morning, I woke up and looked at my phone and saw I had a text from my ballpark buddy back in Canada asking me if I was at the ballpark. I said, “What? How did I get a text?” Then I looked at my settings and noticed airplane mode wasn’t turned on. I had turned it off a few weeks ago and forgot to turn it back on. So, I had been roaming for a month and paying $10 daily on my phone bill. I was sad that I had made that mistake, but I was happy when my friend texted me, and I learned that it was off so I could turn it on. Unfortunately, although I told him I didn’t go, I didn’t thank him for helping me figure out that I didn’t have airplane mode on.
For many years, I kept a family diary devoted to good news and funny stories about my family while the girls were growing up. I stopped a few years ago. I am thinking of starting it up again because I have noticed that a lot of good and funny things are happening to my wife and I.
